LAUGH FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Bargatze to headline charity comedy event
Laughs 4 Life returns for yet another night of comedic relief and fundraising Friday, July 30 at Hattiesburg’s historic Saenger Theater.
Headlining this year’s event will be Nate Bargatze, one of comedy’s fasting-rising stars. Joining Bargatze will be special guest opener and fellow Tennessean Leanne Morgan, one of the South’s most relatable comedians.
Despite having his highly acclaimed Good Problem to Have theater tour derailed by COVID-19 in 2020, Bargatze has thrived over the past year with the release of two one-hour Netflix specials, “The Tennessee Kid” and the recently released “The Greatest Average American.” With comedy that is both clean and relatable, Bargatze continues to tour throughout the country to socially distant crowds at some of the country’s most well-known venues.
Opening for Bargatze, Morgan’s southern charm and hilarious story telling has quickly made her one of the most popular comedians throughout the country. 2021 will see Morgan embarking on her very first national headlining tour across the United States. Hub City Comedy’s own Jamie Arrington will once again serve as comedic host for the event.
Plans are still in development for festivities surrounding Laughs 4 Life with hopes of having a pre-show block party complete with local musical entertainment, street games and more. Tickets for Laughs 4 Life will go on sale in May, and organizers will work closely with venue, city and health officials in determining appropriate measures with regards to health protocols.
Through five years of fundraising efforts, Laughs 4 Life has been responsible for distributing more than $680,000 to its partner beneficiaries. All proceeds from the event are being distributed by Laughs 4 Life via the Pinebelt Foundation and will once again be supporting the International Myeloma Foundation, the Laughs 4 Life Lounge for Art and Music Therapy within Children’s of Mississippi, and research initiatives taking place locally at the Forrest General Cancer Center.
Laughs 4 Life was created by Kent Oliver, a Hattiesburg native who in 2015 at 34 years old was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
