HAMBURG, N.Y. — Spectrum News introduced Lynn Hansen and Jolene Wilson last month.
They’re a mother and daughter team from Hamburg who were both diagnosed with breast cancer and battled the disease side-by-side.
To help others in their fight, they collected more than $3,000 worth of cans and cashed them in.
With that money, they’re putting together care packages with the Windsong Cares Foundation to send home with people after surgeries and treatments.
On Saturday, the community had a chance to get involved with this effort.
Wilson and Hanson created a new fundraiser called More Than Strong, which took place at the Moose Lodge in Hamburg.
People could grab some barbecue chicken and try their luck in a basket raffle.
Wilson says the hard work her mom and her put into this event is all worth it.
“It gives me kind of a sense of purpose and it also turns something very negative to something very positive,” said Wilson. “It’s also showing my kids, my nieces, my nephews, just how you can give back.”
Money raised from this event will benefit the Windsong Cares Foundation to improve access and education around cancer prevention, cancer screening, and cancer research.
