SUMMARY

The Department of Experimental Therapeutics is leading the effort to coordinate all stages of the therapeutic discovery and development process. Our initiative is to design new, more effective and specific drugs with less toxicity, targeted for individualized therapy and accelerate the delivery of these new drug therapies from the research bench to the patient’s bedside.

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out various research projects while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Participation & Technique Application

** Participates in scientific research projects under the direction of a principal investigator or designee. ** Applies different molecular & cellular biology techniques to evaluate properties of new anticancer agents in vitro and in vivo using relevant models.

Research Design, Reagents Preparation, Data Tracking & Submission

** Functions in an independent manner in the design of research experiments. ** Prepares reagents such as buffers, plasmids, and stock solutions. (Including the liposomal preparation and proliferation assays, testing of compounds, transfer buffers, running buffers, TBS-T, protein standards, loading buffer, etc.) ** Compiles research data and submits results to superiors for inclusion in publications, grants, or protocols. Utilizes the following applications: word processing, spreadsheet software, and graphic and statistical programs.

Seminars, Scientific Articles & Teaching Others

** Attends seminars and reads scientific articles related to experiments being executed. ** Participates and helps other lab members to promote ongoing projects in the lab. Assists fellow lab members in the implementation of techniques such as protein purification, preparation of DNA and RNA, western blotting, tissue culture, IHC using automated instrumentation, microscopy techniques, and image analysis.

Other duties as assigned

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Experience Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
